TYRA M. CARTER, PhD, RD, LD
Tyra Carter, PhD, RD, LD is a Registered Dietitian and is licensed to practice in Texas. She obtained BS and MS degrees in food and nutrition from Texas Tech University. She completed a dietetic internship at Indiana University Purdue University Medical Center. Most recently she completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Family and Consumer Science Education from Texas Tech University in May 2005 with a research emphasis on childhood health problems related to obesity.
Dr. Carter has more than 25 years experience in academic nutrition education, food evaluation and testing, as well as recipe development. She has been in private practice and specializes in helping patients manage cardiovascular disease, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, and weight issues. Currently, she is collaborating with faculty from Texas Tech University on research projects to evaluate the supermarket as a prime location for nutrition education and lifestyle modification to promote health/wellness and reduce the risks of chronic disease.
As the Corporate Dietitian of United Supermarkets, LLC, she is responsible for nutrition education for team members, store Guests, and individuals within the community through partnerships. She is involved in management of the in-store nutrition scoring system, NuVal™, designed to assist shoppers in making informed food decisions as related to health, wellness and prevention of disease. Dr. Carter focuses on helping our guests get the most for their money through wise shopping tips and economical meal planning. She takes complex nutrition information and makes it come to life in ways guaranteed to benefit you and your family with both tasty and healthful meals/snacks!
In her spare time, Dr. Carter enjoys creating in her kitchen and sewing room at home. A foodie at heart, making homemade bread is a favorite tradition, as well as designing patterns on her computerized embroidery sewing machine to stitch out various craft or quilting projects. She also enjoys spending time with her family, including her preschool grandson and infant granddaughter.
ALICIA M JEROME, MS, RD, LD
Alicia M Jerome, MS, RD, LD is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian. She obtained her BS degree in Exercise Science from Hardin Simmons University and her MS degree in Exercise and Sports Nutrition from Texas Woman’s University. She completed her dietetic internship at Texas Woman’s University and passed her RD exam in 2006.
Alicia has been a dietitian for DFW area Market Streets since 2008. Previously she worked for a health resort providing preventative nutrition care. Alicia is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and was President of the Dallas Dietetic Association from 2011-2012. In 2009, she was honored to receive the Registered Young Dietitian of the Year Award (RYDY).
As a Corporate Dietitian, she works with and for store guests and team members to provide nutrition education. Alicia has a passion for making nutrition fun, especially for kids. She has an interest in vegetarian/vegan nutrition, enjoys working with the corporate chef to calculate the nutrition analysis of his delicious recipes, and finding new topics for the Market Street Blog. Through store tours, community programs, maintaining the NuVal tag program and more, she is realizing more and more every day that this is her dream job.
When she is not at Market Street, Alicia enjoys baking vegan treats, working out, being outdoors with her wonderful husband and chocolate lab, Whiskey Jack, and exploring to new foods and places.
ROBIN HAWKINS, MS, RD, LD
DIRECTOR OF HEALTH & WELLNESS
Robin Hawkins is a Registered Dietitian and licensed to practice in the state of Texas. She obtained a BS and MS in Food and Nutrition from Texas Tech University. She also completed a Dietetic Internship at Texas Tech University. In 2004, Robin was honored to receive the Outstanding Educator of the Year for Dietetic Internship from the Texas Dietetic Association. In 2005 she received the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award from the Texas Dietetic Association.
Robin has more than 12 years of experience including extensive clinical and management experience. She most recently spent more than six years in the medical sales arena. As Director of Health and Wellness, she is responsible for leading the team of dietitians as well as working with a cross functional team of experts at United Supermarkets, LLC and external sources to create a Health and Wellness value to our Guests. Robin is focused on making sure Market Street is meeting the Health and Wellness needs of their Guests. She also enjoys conducting store tours and teaching Guests how to make better food choices.
Robin loves to spend time cooking with her husband and creating new and yummy gluten-free recipes. She enjoys her three Boston Terriers, Pugzlee, Sassee, and Lulu, and spending time outdoors gardening and growing roses.
JENNIFER GORMAN, MS, RD, LD
Jennifer Gorman is a Registered Dietitian and is licensed to practice in Texas. She obtained BS and MS degrees in nutritional sciences from Texas Tech University. She completed a dietetic internship at Texas Tech University. Currently, she is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a part of the Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition dietetic practice group.
Jennifer has experience in nutrition education for cardiovascular disease, diabetes education, and is certified in counseling for Adult Weight Management. She is also a certified Master Fitness Specialist with a background in exercise science. She specializes in helping people to make lifestyle changes on every realm – fitness, diet, and stress management.
As Wellness Manager of United Supermarkets, LLC, she is responsible for educating Team Members, store GuestS, and community groups on issues related to nutrition, health, wellness, and disease management. Jennifer is involved in the planning and implementation of Team Member wellness challenges and events. She plays a vital role in the overall well-being of Team Members at all store locations and pursuing United Supermarket’s, LLC overall health and wellness initiatives.
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys spending time outside playing with her 3 dogs and cheering on her husband as he coaches football and basketball.
