Heat oven to 375 degrees. Add butter and onions to skillet on medium-high heat. Cook onions until lightly browned and translucent. In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups shredded cheese, cream cheese and dips mix.. Gradually stir in beer until mixture reaches a creamy consistency. Add onions to mix. Pour entire mix in to oven safe baking dish. Top with remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheese. Bake for 15 minutes until hot and bubbly. Serve with pretzel crackers, chips or vegetable pieces.
